Sash UK Eco Success

The Ingavoe development in Kirkwall, Orkney is a masterpiece of environmentally responsible design, and Sash UK is delighted to be part of the project fabricating and installing a whole host of eco-friendly glazing solutions for the houses. The development comprises 14 houses on the site which are being built by Orkney Builders (Contractors) Limited in association with architects, Bracewell Stirling.

“The whole project centres around environmental awareness,” comments David Ruzicka of Sash. “These are unique houses and represent a complete departure from the norm in the region. Traditionally, houses on the Orkney Islands are made from timber frame but these are different! The architect has kept a fairly traditional look but has incorporated high tech services, including solar collectors and ground source heating. These homes are really at the pinnacle of design and that is why we have been chosen to kit them out.”

Sash supplied the windows for the original three-bedroom show house, complete with built in sunrooms as standard and has been enlisted to supply and install the glazing for the rest of the houses on the development which are due for completion soon. “This is a hugely significant project for us to be involved in,” continues David. “As far as energy efficiency is concerned, the client recognised our excellent credentials. We pride ourselves on being an environmentally responsible company in all areas, putting strict measures in place to ensure that our carbon emissions are as low as possible.”

Recycling and reduction of wastage is a paramount concern at Sash and employees have been educated in following the strictest guidelines on energy and material savings. “Being specified for the Ingavoe development is a testament to our environmentally conscious work ethic,” continues David. “We are able to prove our efficiency, not only in the product range but in the daily manufacturing and production processes, from cradle to grave. Our ethos - running through the company from board to factory floor –has ensured our participation in this truly prestigious and ground breaking project on Orkney.”

Upon completion all houses will comprise a whole host of energy efficient devices to enable inhabitants to save energy where possible and drastically reduce their bills throughout the year.
